Maranatha Productions, Inc., a nonprofit production company based in Lancaster, PA, has been staging Charles Dickens’ delightful tale for five decades.  Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Maranatha also dramatizes Biblical accounts and true stories of faith-based lives in churches and schools, at camps and retreats, and for retirement homes and community organizations.

Set in the snowy streets of Victorian London, “A CHRISTMAS CAROL” tells the timeless story of the stingy, tightfisted, and rather irascible curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge. To Scrooge, who spends long, glum days behind his counting house desk counting and stacking, then gleefully re-counting and re-stacking the hoarded coins of his wealth, Christmas is “nothing more than a poor excuse to pick a man’s pocket every December 25th!” Everything that is Christmas is just “a lot of humbug!” until midnight one Christmas Eve when most unexpectedly he is visited by his late business partner Jacob Marley and three Christmas spirits who change his mind and attitude about Christmas and life forever!  The true meaning and hope of Christmas can bring change to lives today as well.

Authentically-costumed, “A CHRISTMAS CAROL” will delight audiences of all ages as Ebenezer Scrooge’s bleak and parsimonious world is brought to life one Christmas Eve. The three glorious spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future take Ebenezer Scrooge on an amazing journey backward and forward, moving from one Christmas Eve encounter to yet another in his own life!  All of this occurs with help from the audience in completing the cast.
